Marigny Green
What is Marigny Green?
Marigny Green is a volunteer committee under the auspices of Faubourg Marigny Improvement Association (FMIA). Marigny Green is in its third year of making resources and information available on living green and informing the residents on how to get involved in green initiatives such as: ReLeaf, RePlant, Recycle, ReLight and Transporation.
Marigny Green/ReLeaf missi on is to help provide a greener and healthier urban canopy of trees in the Marigny. We have planted over 150 trees in the Marigny thanks to the hard work of volunteers. Marigny Green/ReLeaf is looking for volunteers to continue this program.
Marigny Green/ReLight has partnered with Green Light New Orleans green@greenlightneworleans.org to educate and present information to residents on the importance of energy efficient lightning.
Marigny Green/ReCycle provides tips of available free recycling services throughout the city until New Orleans has curbside recycling. FMIA events in Washington Square Park are recycled thanks to Phoenix Recycling who provides the recycle service for the events.
Marigny Green/Transportation’s goal is to develop a safer and more bike friendly neighborhood in conjunction with the Metro Bike Coalition ( info@mbcnola.org ).
Marigny Green/RePlant’s goal is to encourage plantings on streetscapes, servitude, private property, and vacant areas owned by the city and to develop community gardens for Marigny residents. Marigny Green is brainstorming ideas on how to have plantings within an urban environment with Darlene, the director of Market Share (darlen @marketumbrella.org ) . If you have a vacant lot, residents have expressed interest in having a community garden, please contact deboraho@faubourgmarigny.org .
