•  Anhydrous Ammonia, the type used in refrigeration and proposed for use at the facility, is a toxic gas that, if released, can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, mouth, lungs and skin and when it reacts with water, creates a caustic substance. Prolonged or heavy exposure can cause permanent lung damage and death.

•  An average of 100 18- wheeler refrigerated trucks will be entering and exiting the facility daily , that is at least 200 trips along Elysian Fields Avenue. These trucks will need to be idling at all times, producing heavy diesel pollution, in order to power their refrigeration units.

•  If an ammonia leak occurred at the current site, as have occurred recently at other similar facilities, common emergency protocol would demand the evacuation of most parts of the French Quarter and the Faubourg Marigny to avoid the public's exposure.

•  Although the site is currently a Maritime facility, this wharf has never been used as a heavy industrial facility or used as an animal product processing site.

•  According to the City's master zoning document, this site is zoned as a VCC (Vieux Carre) Park.

•  The Port of New Orleans did not include the impact of the facility on its neighbors when assessing the viability of the Esplanade Ave / Governor Nichols Wharf location.
