Marigny Green ReLight

The goal of Marigny Green ReLight is to educate and present information to Marigny’s residents the importance of energy efficient lightning. Marigny Green ReLight has collaborated and partnered with Green Light of New Orleans (www.greenlightneworleans.org).

It has been documented by the Department of Entergy that 11% of energy is used in lighting one’s home. Replacing incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent light ( CFLs) and/or Light Emitting Diode (LEDs) light can reduce the amount of energy used for lighting in your home by 50% to 75% and has a monetary savings as well. Energy efficient lights are available in a variety of sizes and shapes and fit in almost any fixture for indoors and outdoors. There are many hurdles that must be worked out for companies to produce LEDs at a reasonable cost. Marigny Green ReLight will present information to residents as more resources become available.

Facts : excerpt from Green Light New Orleans www.greenlightneworleans.org with a compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing 800,000 cars from the road.*

If every American family switched 1 light bulb to CFL's, we could save 600 million dollars in annual energy costs - enough to light about 3 million homes for an entire year!*

Lighting accounts for 20% to 25% of all electricity consumed in the United States.

Energy Star qualified CFLs produce about 75 percent less heat and can cut additional energy costs associated with home cooling. *

CFLs provide the same amount of light (lumens) as standard incandescent bulbs, but have lower wattage ratings. This means they use less energy and cause less pollution. If you are unfamiliar with the best CFL wattage to use for your lighting needs, always refer to the lumen, or light output on the product packaging as your guide. For example, most 60-watt incandescent bulb provide around 800 lumens. * www.energystar.gov

PLEASE Recycle CFL light bulbs at FMIA’s General Meeting

CFL light bulbs does contain a small amount of mercury ( 5mg) and to show a comparison, a mercury thermometer has between 500 and 1,000 mg. This small amount must be disposed appropriately. Marigny Green ReLight will recycle CFL light bulbs for FMIA members at every FMIA General Meeting (third Monday of the month at 6:30 pm at the historic St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2624 Burgundy Street).

TERMINTE SEASON is a problem and Marigny Green ReLight can help. Marigny Green ReLight has a fundraiser to sell the stock of bug porch energy efficient light(CFLs) for $2.50. The bug porch energy efficient light must be in a covered fixture. For more information, contact Deborah at
