Sidewalk Trees Project

Neighbor-run, small business-powered and city-funded, we've received just over $15,000 in grants and planted nearly 50 trees across the Marigny's sidewalks since 2023. We've removed over 50,000 pounds of concrete and created 1,000+ new square feet of permeable shared space.

Did you know...

  • New Orleans has the worst urban heat effect in the entire U.S.
  • The Marigny has a measly 7% tree canopy, one of the city’s lowest.
  • New Orleans lost ~30% of its tree canopy in Katrina.
  • Most of the Marigny's "planting strips" are paved, making tree planting ~3x more expensive due to concrete removal.

How you can help...

  • Get a tree planted in front of your house
  • Volunteer to help remove concrete, dig holes and plant trees
  • Volunteer with outreach and awareness
  • Donate to the cause
